Flysurfer Speed 4 Kitesurfing Kite

Flysurfer Speed 4 at ATBShop

The Flysurfer Speed 4 Kitesurfing Kite has just been announced in 8m and 10m sizes! We had a chance to check out the proto types in Portgual earlier in the year and they are sweeeet. The Speed 4 is a hybrid between a Speed 3 a Psycho 4 and some new tech to create the 4. This is the awesomely fun, boosting machine for high winds that Flysurfer addicts have been waiting for!

Flysurfer Speed 4 It has been a long wait for the first official sign that a new Speed is coming and now it is finally here. We are pleased and proud to present to you the next step or rather, jump, in Flysurfer development: Flysurfer Speed 4 8m and Flysurfer Speed 4 10m.

First things first: The Flysurfer Speed4 in 8.0 and 10.0m² are unbelievably versatile. Despite the enormous performance potential, the Speed4 is still suitable for beginners in the lower wind ranges but still a true air-time machine in the upper wind range.

The demand for other (bigger) sizes of the Speed4 is naturally justifiable. Still, it is not so simple to top an extraordinary product like the Speed3. So we still need some time – and until then the Speed3 Colored Edition (CE) from 12.0m² upwards remain within the Speed series. However, we are certain that 2013 will be the release year for the additional Speed4 sizes (12.0/15.0/18.0/21.0m²).

Flysurfer Speed 4 8m Deluxe £1450

Flysurfer Speed 4 10m Standard £1450
Flysurfer Speed 4 10m Deluxe £1635

Unequaled performance – at your demand

Without exaggeration: The Speed4 is the best performing kite that we have ever built. Whether in low end, turningspeed, relaunch, jumping characteristics or depower… Almost everywhere we have been able to set new limits. Yet it’s performance is more accessible than ever – for every rider. It starts when you pull up the Speed4: The kite inflates incredibly fast and provides security from the first moment onwards. Whether fully powered up or fully depowered, a Speed4 stays stable in the sky. And thanks to the balanced handling not only your jumps are much easier, but also their landings.

The Radical4 is Flyboards new freeride and freestyle kiteboard for the end of the 2012 season. This season has seen a big change for the Flyboards range with production moving into Europe and a complete redesign.  The quality of these boards is superb - the rails are nicer, the finish is superb and the weight has once again been reduced.

In the first weekend of owning the board I was lucky enough to ride it a couple of times in varying conditions and kite sizes (9m/15m) I have previously ridden the 2009 and 2010 Radicals as my primary board and towards the end of 2010/2011 rode the Flexifoil Hadlow board, Xenon La Luz and Xenon Infra. I felt these other boards had certain flex characteristics and a general "ease of use" factor that I had lost on the older Radical.

I briefly rode the Radical4 prototype in Portugal earlier in the year and it won me back over with the wow factor. I sent the Xenon back and bought one the day they arrived in the Uk and after this weekends riding I can say I have zero regret.

I always find it harder to right a helpful review for a product that I like so much, I struggle to find negatives about the product and it all seems a bit to good to be true. The truth is the Radical4 takes my top of the podium spot for comfort and general riding. The pads are like cushions on hard landings and the straps go smaller than any other strap I have ridden in years. You gain so much more confidence when you can really clamp your feet in and it adds a new element to riding as everything is more direct for slashing turns and riding really powered up!

Graphics are always down to personal preference but again, The board looks premium in the flesh, and stands out nicely in photos. Nothing to loud and they seem to have gone back to their original roots graphically which I am happy about - The best looking Radical yet.

Although the Radical4 comes complete with the usual pads/straps/fins/grab handle combo Flyboards also include 3 extra foam grab rails which can be placed around the edges of your board. I left the grab handle off completely in favour of these. The board looks more streamlined and also the rails are far more practical for tricks.

These extra rails give you something more grippy and less sharp than fins and rails to grab during footout/board off tricks and give you more direct control in the air for tweaking out tricks.

This year Flyboards have added a deep channel which runs down the heelside edge of the board, this helps create more grip when loading for tricks and jumps. I also found it smooth the transition of leaving the water when unhooking and killed that "sticky" feeling you get on some boards. The flex on the board is nice, it is less stiff through the middle and towards the tips than the older Radical boards which is what I preferred from the Hadlow/Xenon range. The board is more playful because of this and I had zero spray from the rails - an issue that can make a great board un ridable.

In all I would say the Radical4 would make a superb board for anyone who is at a level of freeriding in various water conditions and just likes to have fun on the water. I imagine in the right hands this board could be a fantastic freestyle board and would be really interesting to ride with boots. The only negative I am able to find is the price. Sure the build and features are superb and you get what you pay for, but we always like to pay less for anything right?
